/Description
Offered as a pair, these five-light candelabra carry a composed reading of the Rococo idiom. Each silvered bronze body rises through a central baluster stem, around which scrolling arms dressed in acanthus foliage open in measured balance. Every arm resolves in a finely worked drip-pan and a fluted candle nozzle, the chased surface allowing light to break softly across the metal rather than glare from it. The bodies rest upon plinths of veined rouge marble, lifted just clear of the surface by bronze paw feet, a contrast that sets the warmth of the stone in quiet dialogue with the cool of the silvered finish. The symmetry of the pair suggests a rhythm conceived for the two ends of a dining table or the flanks of a console. Most likely dating to the close of the nineteenth century, the pieces reflect the regard the Belle Époque ateliers held for the decorative arts. Even unlit, they hold the sculptural presence to define the centre of a room. For a collection, they offer a rare completeness, carrying both a practical and a ceremonial weight.
