/Description

The quiet sovereign of a ceremonial table. This surtout de table is a multi-part silver garniture built around a central lobed jardinière, flanked by a pair of boat-form tazze. The front of the central bowl carries a relief frieze of classically draped figures, while above the composition a standing allegorical female — likely a Muse or a figure of Victory — holds a candle nozzle and anchors the vertical axis. To either side, scrolling branches rise into fluted stems and candelabra arms crowned with grotesque masks; lion-paw feet and garland swags hold the whole in neoclassical discipline. The workmanship reads as the late-nineteenth-century Historicist silver tradition: high-relief cast figures, hand-chased surface texture, and an architectural sense of balance. Date and origin are not formally documented; the style and technique point to approximately this period. At this scale, such a piece rarely sits in a collection as an object — it sits as a stage. It is presented for close examination within the gallery.

/Provenance

Provenance and precise dating are not documented. The style, casting technique and figural work suggest the late-nineteenth-century Historicist silver tradition. Detailed examination and a condition report are available on request through the gallery.
