/Description
Conceived to leave a quiet center at the heart of a table, this centerpiece holds a hand-cut crystal boat within a figural silver mount. Fan and shell motifs carved across the bowl break the light into soft flutes, and each shifting shadow reveals the depth of the crystal anew. At either end, female figures holding wind instruments serve as supports; the measured grace of their poses echoes the neoclassical fascination with the ancient world. The cast relief panel at the front depicts a ceremonial scene of togate figures, framed by floral festoons that point to the Louis XVI revival taste of the era. The craftsmanship suggests the hand of a Belle Époque atelier around the turn of the twentieth century; while no firm attribution is made, both material and style sit comfortably within that period. For a collection, this object is not merely an ornament but a quiet witness to a vanished table culture and to the discipline of the silversmith's art.
