/Description
Standing at the center of the gallery corridor, this bombé vitrine carries the curving elegance of the Louis XV idiom with a quiet sense of ceremony. Its body swells outward at the front and sides in a true bombé form, a silhouette that demands one of the most exacting techniques in cabinetmaking. Each face is wrapped in curved glass panels that lend a soft depth to the porcelain and silver displayed within. The dark-toned walnut veneer is framed by gilt-bronze mounts; the scrolling corners, the crest, and the tips of the cabriole legs are accented with ormolu detailing, in all likelihood worked by hand. The central panel of the lower door bears a hand-painted composition in the spirit of the Vernis Martin tradition, depicting a graceful female figure within a pastoral scene. This single detail elevates the piece from a storage cabinet to a decorative object in its own right. The interior shelving is arranged so collection pieces may be presented with backlighting. Reflecting the imprint that Belle Époque French taste left upon European salons, this cabinet is a candidate to anchor a room through both craftsmanship and presence. Within the gallery it is presented amid a gathering of companion vitrines, in a true collector's atmosphere.
