/Description

This figural sculpture captures the poised stance of a young hunter mid-gesture, its surface alive with the warm glow of gilt bronze. Dressed in a plumed cap, a draped jacket and breeches, the figure extends one arm toward a distant point while the other hand holds a bow; a game pouch, a quiver and the marks of the hunt rest at his side. The expression, the folds of the garments and the incised detailing all point to hand-finishing carried out after the casting. The idiom recalls the late nineteenth-century French tradition of figural bronze, where hunting scenes and romantic protagonists were favoured subjects for salon sculpture. The figure stands upon a red-veined marble plinth, itself set into a richly foliate gilt-bronze mount. The layering of materials lends the piece a staged presence that reaches beyond mere display. While the precise date and workshop are not documented, the craftsmanship and composition carry the weight of a collector's object. It is conceived as a focal point for a writing desk, a library shelf or a quiet corner. Closer inspection is welcomed within the gallery.
