/Description
Three putti are gathered around a dolphin rising from the waves, modeled as though caught in a single suspended moment. Carrying one of the most beloved mythological themes of the Capodimonte and Neapolitan porcelain schools, this group was hand-modeled and individually hand-painted. The soft contours of the children's bodies, the green-blue tonality of the waves, and the flowing drapery accented in gold reveal the refinement particular to the master porcelain painters of the period. The composition establishes a balanced sense of movement across its oval base. The facial expressions, the curls of hair, and the leafy crowns bear the trace of the hand rather than the mold. The contrast between the pastel flesh tones and the vivid drapery colors lends the piece a warm and living presence. Figural groups of this kind, offered as a joyful interpretation of classical mythology, held a distinct place in late-nineteenth and early-twentieth-century European collections. They were sought after for drawing-room vitrines and private cabinets alike. While its precise date and workshop remain undocumented, the style and craftsmanship point to the Neapolitan tradition.
